New state-of-the-art rotating tramcars take visitors on a spectacular ascent from the desert to the 8,516-foot mountain station. The Mountain Station hosts a restaurant, movie theater and gift shop; visitors may hike, cross-country ski and rent snow tubes in the state park.

Andreas, Murray and Palm canyons make up the Indian Canyons near Palm Springs, with hiking, horse trails, trading post and picnic areas. Tahquitz Canyon is also open to the public after being closed for nearly 30 years; it features guided hiking tours and a visitor center with historical information and movies.
